About Alta Vista

Alta Vista is a small neighborhood encompassing about 0.28 square miles in the southeast region of San Diego. Alta Vista is tucked between the neighborhoods of Valencia Park and Encanto which are to the north, Skyline and Bay Terraces which are to the east, Paradise Hills to the south, and Paradise Village to the southwest.

History of Alta Vista

There was a large influx of Filipino immigrants joining the United States Navy during the 1990s after the Vietnam war era. Many of these new Americans inhabited the southeast San Diego neighborhood of Alta Vista and the surrounding neighborhoods of Bay Terraces, Paradise Hills, Shelltown, Skyline Hills, and Valencia Park. These neighborhoods were promising and attention-grabbing to immigrants because they were affordable at the time and had close proximity to the Navy base in San Diego.
